@littlemimus They had the bhp, but they didnt have anywhere near the technology the cars of today have got. Dont forget - unregulated would mean the return of active suspension, ground effects (no minimum plank thickness after a race - and skirts!), turbos, adjustable wings, so they can remove downforce on the straights - the cars would be INSANELY faster than today - and they wouldnt kill themselves, these guys are professionals, not chumps.

Just watched todays F1 at belgium racetrack, after turn 1 nothing happened as usual, same leader the whole race and the standing would have ended the same for the first 5 cars if 2 of them hadnt bumped into each other. I will laugh all the way to the bank as F1 fans continue to argue F1s bigger status worldwide, NasCar will slowly continue to make its way into european households as a sport that acutally is fun watching. I haven't seen a single thing about Austin on any of the news networks. It's a huge deal to F1 fans here but most of the population doesn't care one way or the other.

I'm pleasantly surprised with the Austin layout. I can see bits of Montreal or maybe Maggots and Becketts through Turns 3, 4 and 5; a back to front and downhill La Source to Eau Rouge stretch from turn 10 backwards to 8; A bit of Hockenheim's infield section through turns 12,13 and 14; and a left handed version of everyone's favourite turn at Istanbul through turns 16, 17 and 18 ...PLUS a nice long back straight! Looks like it has potential to be a real drivers circuit! Can hardly wait!

I know he has only started in 3, but if you compare him with the likes of Kimi Raikkonen who is driving he's first year in WRC he got 11 points in the same rallies as Ken Block drove. Remember Kimi was driving full season in F1 last year... Ken dont impress me mutch so far.

@powerfultoa7 front and rear wing angles have the most effect. For example a greater rear wing angle than front wing angle will result in understeer and vice versa for oversteer. However, brake bias and weight distribution can also be changed to change under/oversteer. Hope that helps.

F1 is "boring" because it's as much about the team and the engineering as it is the racing. Nascar is more about the drivers. They have a ton of restrictions and all of the cars look identical, and produce the same power. In F1, they have more freedom when it comes to car design and engine output, so while they do have rules, they can engineer advantages that Nascar teams cannot. If you like engineering AND racing, F1 is your sport. If you just wanna watch cars race, Nascar.

Senna, Mansell, Prost and Piquet...damn those were great times! I miss those times so much. On May 1st 1994, 16 years ago, Senna died and F1 along with him.Now its painfull to watch just 5 minutes of F1 because its so boring.People complain F1 nowadays sucks but if they really want to make a point, then, stop going to the tracks and watch it live.Stop watching today F1 and maybe FIA will do something to make it good again.

i remember watching this! It was and always will be a great moment in F1 - 2 huge rivals and Mansell helps Senna back to the pits - how sporting. Senna is my all time fave, but that man Mansell I loved to watch too as he drove the nuts off his cars and the overtakes he used to do! Superb era.

I still haven?t found a decent article showing exactly what the system looks like and how it works, which is frustrating. @iamthepolice Money, money, and more money. Combined with a pneumatic valve train (no valve springs), very small pistons, short rods and crank throws = very high RPM and a lot of HP/L. The downside to all that is one of the peakyest engines in racing and not much torque. But for a super light vehicle with the right gearing that?s just fine. A side note: according to my info, an F1 engine should be rebuilt about every 400hrs.

It's a shame they didn't do something MORE crazy. I would've rather seen an addition to the track where Veal is now, not the removal of Copse. Copse looked like a very fun corner, along with Bridge and Becketts. Now, there is no more Copse on the F1 layout. It would've been cool if they added something more "unique" like Spa's Eau Rouge, or Laguna Seca's "Corkscrew." Imagine, though, if they did something like Mid-Ohio's turns 5-9, or Knockhill's uphill chicane. It's somewhat of a shame.

At speeds of 200mph the air has to be routed to where it absolutely needs to go. And 4 layers of fireproof clothing just adds to the fact, things will not be cool.

I think it's almost impossible to compare the two in terms of drivers' success in each with so many variables in play. Mansell did well for a year in CART but oval tracks and other race circuits provide vastly different challenges which is why when IRL and NASCAR in particular go to road circuits the also rans often excel, like Ambrose

@supermarine67 Sure, look at the variety and diversity of circuits in F1, Spa, Monza, Monte Carlo, etc. etc. - look at Nascar - here is an oval, here is another oval, put up the same advertising and they would need a sat nav to realise thaty were at a different circuit, give them a right turn and they would all be fucked!!
