@Pahis1 If memory serves, the Peugeot F1 car that had turbocharging had 1300HP before it was banned, active aerodynamics were banned the same season they were introduced after the team beat all their previous records, and the one season ABS was allowed EVERY track record was broken. It would be amazing to allow that stuff in an open class. lol

Todays formulas hard to drive? Nowadays traction controls and automatics do all the work, looking back to the 70s and 80s, when drivers had to shunt the gearboxes and stomp clutch pedals, to not crash to deaths with their 1000+bhp flying machines. We need a good American F1 team (USF1!!) and a few more venues stateside (I think there's going to be a race in Texas next year). Anyone could theoretically hop behind the wheel and race one, but to be competitive in F1, you have to work your car around you from the ground up. But as i said before each series is respectable in its own right. But you cannot deny the level of competition and prestige that goes with F1. Doing so is just plain ignorant. To rise above the childish and lets face it pointless squabbling, Gordon's test proved a top NASCAR driver can handle a F1 car (Williams actually offered him another test), which can shut the mouths of jackasses that say dumb bollocks like "NASCAR drivers only know how to turn left," while affirming that drivers at every level dream of getting behind a F1 wheel. Each series has its own perks and alongside the Aussie V8 series I'd say they were the three best in the world.

@jakethedane after every race every driver does an extra lap in order to get back to the pits. mansell is no different. senna hopped in on mansells extra lap. all the other drivers around mansell are doing an extra lap as well. the race was finished

@freshkid429 yes you can but you have to wait until the car is out of competition as such, so outdated aerodynamics etc as the teams will not sell them with fears of the technology getting to competitors it is very rare to see the engines go with them as well but you can buy engines from the manufacturers. at my old work we had 4 old f1 cars that were going to auction. got some good pics somewhere, shoes how much they have evolved in 10 years!

@FedskaTheOne 1200 hp was in qualification trim, in race trip they had race engine with fuel economy in mind and the power outputs were lower. Also the tires were more suited to drifting and the drivers could adjust front suspension setting from inboard.

Rally is split between the WRC and newly founded IRC. Witch now has the Monte Carlo crown jewel, the Eurosport TV coverage and most of the traditional manufacturers/ constructors (Subaru, RallyArt/ Mitshubishi, Abarth/ FIAT, Peugeot, Skoda, M-Sport Ford, Proton ).

I liked WRC, but there is NO WRC coverage in the States anymore. Also, I don't understand why Speed can't rerun early morning races later that day. F1 at Montreal or Australia or in the wet/rain is better then any of NASCAR cookie cutter tracks racing, but NASCAR on the road course and even on the plate tracks is fun. . The NASCAR Trucks series is providing good racing at almost any track. It's the closest thing to the old school F1 slipstream racing that happened at Monza/ Rheims before the chicanes of the early mid 70s.

Whoever says Nascar is better than F1 is downright stupid. I don't care if you're from USA. One simple point that everyone can understand is that Nascar is only popular in USA whereas F1 it's popular worldwide. The F1 season 2006-2007 had an average of 600mil TV viewers per Grand Prix. Besides that, in Nascar cars are only crashing and circling, so it's plain stupid and it's zero compared to the skill you need to be a F1 driver. Cheers !

This was one of the few informative bits I have seen from TopGear so far...it is impossible to comprehend the level of skill, fast thinking and almost inhuman reaction times demanded of the driver from modern F1 cars, they are staggering pieces of racing art. Brock Yates said years ago that race driving was not so much driving as fencing with the car as you foil...Question...has it all gone too far? Are we at the level where F1 is so expensive, and so unrelated to "cars" in the real sense? ?
